More about this tool

How it works

Create a transparent SVG shape with adjustable points, rotation, colors and stroke. Download the artwork or import it into Flipline Motion Desk for animation.

  • The generator creates one path on a square transparent canvas. Polygon vertices and alternating star vertices are placed around the center; rotation starts from the upward direction.
  • Spirals are open Archimedean polylines with 32 straight segments per turn, not fitted curves. Spiral fill is always none and a visible stroke is required.
  • The stated bounds cover path geometry before stroke. Stroke is inset inside the viewBox, and the SVG contains only generated geometry and validated solid colors.

How to make vector shapes for graphics and animation

Generate editable SVG polygons, stars and spirals with transparent backgrounds.

What it is for

Use Vector Shape Generator to make a simple vector building block for an icon, illustration, presentation or animation. Choose a polygon, star or spiral, set its geometry and colors, then download an SVG file. SVG describes the artwork as paths, so it remains sharp when scaled and can be edited in a vector application.

The canvas is square and transparent. A polygon or star can have a fill, an outline, or both; a spiral is an open line and needs a visible outline. This tool creates one shape at a time. It is useful when you want a predictable starting point without drawing each vertex manually.

Worked example

Choose Star, a canvas size of 512, and 5 points. Set the inner radius to 0.45, rotation to 0, fill to #E5AA4F, stroke to #253C3A, and stroke width to 8. Run the tool. The preview shows a five-point star, and the result reports ten path points: five outer tips alternate with five inner corners.

Download the SVG and open it in a vector editor. To animate it in Flipline, use Open Flipline in the result and choose Open editable vectors in Motion Desk. The geometry becomes an editable path layer with a static starting pose, ready for keyframes. You can also download the file and import it through Motion Desk, or use it wherever plain SVG paths are supported.

For a spiral, switch Shape to Spiral, set Turns to 2, and keep a nonzero stroke with a six-digit HEX color. The result has 65 path points: the center and 64 segments across two turns. The fill setting is ignored because the spiral is an open path.

How to read the result

Shape identifies the selected kind. Path points counts the generated vertices, and Path says whether the shape is closed. The downloadable file contains one path on a transparent square viewBox.

The result data also gives the SVG markup, path commands and geometry bounds. Bounds cover the path itself before the stroke is applied. The generator leaves room for the stroke within the viewBox so it is not clipped at the canvas edge.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Points apply to polygons and stars. Inner radius affects stars only, while turns affects spirals only.
  • Set a star's inner radius closer to zero for longer points or closer to one for shallower points.
  • Colors must be six-digit HEX values such as #236F8A, or none. A closed shape must retain a visible fill or stroke.
  • Stroke width cannot exceed one tenth of the canvas size, up to 100 pixels. A spiral needs both a stroke color and a stroke width greater than zero.
  • A spiral is an approximation made of straight segments, not a fitted smooth curve. Zooming in may reveal its small corners.
  • This generator does not create gradients, effects, text or compound paths. Use a vector editor for further changes.

FAQ

Can I change the color after downloading?

Yes. The SVG contains editable path geometry with solid fill and stroke attributes; use a compatible vector editor to recolor it.

Why does a spiral have no fill?

An open spiral is intended as a stroked line. Filling an open path would implicitly close it and produce a different shape, so the generator always exports its fill as none.

Can I use the SVG for animation?

Yes. Import it into Flipline Motion Desk as a plain SVG path, then adjust the layer and its keyframes. The path geometry can be edited in compatible vector applications too.
